empathetic we're going to put some important links into the chat box that we're going to be referring to today Hallelujah by hito Alonzo Smith okay we're going to go ahead and get started and so let me go ahead and I'm going to stop sharing for just a minute and just explain that if there are any parents are guarding is there any attendees here that need Spanish translation there is an interpretation function at the bottom of your resume and so we ask that you select that interpretation link go ahead and select that you would need Spanish translation and Monica Hernandez is our amazing coordinator here of community Works in our parent Center is going to be here to support with translation in your Stephanie Fortunato let me just make that and I also pasted it one more time your structions okay great and I know you have assigned me as an interpreter so I will be moving I just woke up everyone this evening we're so happy you're here actually would like to start us off with our chief academic officer who's joining us here dr. Bernadette Lucas and I know that she absolutely would like say a few words to you as well thank you so much mrs. Fortunato and thank you so much to Miss Hernandez and this incredible team from Educational Services I'm supporting our parents parents are first day I want to thank you thank you for attending tonight you're being here show such a commitment to your child's education and we deeply appreciate you being here I wanted to make a few marks about remarks about assessment and firstly Stephanie's going to go over are standardized assessment that's going to happen at the end of the year and I wanted to make some general comments about assessment as a whole the way we see Assessments in the way research advises us to view assessments and roll them out is to make sure that they are part of the teaching and learning cycle for your children I'm so the most effective way for educators to assess whether or not your children are learning what they deserve to learn is through regular assessment that are tied so what they're learning in the classroom so is Educators we take assessment very very seriously it's our accountability measures to each other to your children and to you I'm so it's really important that we in when are kids the understanding that taking assessment is a way to celebrate your learning it's the way you would tell the world I've learned this in third grade I've learned this in 11th grade and for them to be able to track their progress as they get older the one of the things that makes our relationship with our parents so special is that you support all of these efforts so we ask that as partners in your children's education that you remind them that doing their absolute best on every assessment is absolutely critical schools look at assessment results the state looks at assessment results we use assessment results as a district to make sure they were giving your children what they need so in order to do that we need them to use the assessment times when they're sitting down showing what they know to give it their very very very best efforts I know they're exhausted sometimes they're tired they just wanted to be over with but it is one of the best places for them to show what they know so we ask is parents that you talk to your children about the importance of assessment and still in them that they're practicing to go to college when they take the essay here they submit the assessment scores to get into graduate school so the best place for them to start practicing all of that is now when they're in K in kindergarten through 12th grade so want to thank you again so much for being here off of being our partners in your child's growth and journey and we deeply appreciate you and thank you for all of your support there are 53 parents here that's a big deal so thank you Stephanie thank you so much dr. Lucas so again I wanted to also reiterated welcome everyone we're so happy that you're here this evening to get this really critical information on my name is Stephanie Fortunato and I'm the coordinator of assessment and instruction no technology so it's very nice to see you all here and welcome you all here this evening so we just wanted to go over real briefly what her agenda looks like for today this evening we're going to be talking a little bit about an overall getting some information about what the California assessment of student performance and progress is all about and we commonly refer to that is cat so if you're hearing that terminology about caaspp think that is what we're referring to talk about what is being tested in language arts what is being tested at math and what is going to be tested in science additionally in that we are right now currently on distance learning we're going to be talking about how the assessment is going to be administered remotely so we'll talk about how that will be conducted with your teachers at all the school sites and also we're going to be talking about how you is the parent can support our students to be successful in again reiterated why these assessments are so important so I wanted to start my also providing an update to everyone some of you may have heard that just last week on March 16th the State Board of Education approved the California Department of education's waiver proposal to the US Department of Education in so there may be some pieces of information that you're hearing about that and so we want to make sure that you are well aware of what this means the waiver that was applied to the US Department of Ed and if it winds up being approved it will mean that there will be allowances for using a locally determined a diagnostic or a benchmark or an enormous these assessments must still be aligned to California common core standards for both language arts and Mathematics they must be available to assess for students in grades three through eight and also grade 11 and they must be able to provide results that can be reported to our parents and Guardians and to our Educators about students and also to the public about our schools and our district so right now we're really in sort of this holding right is a waiver of that the CDE the California Department of Education is applying for but currently we really don't know for sure if the US Department will approve it or when so that be who said we really are doing everything we can to make sure that our students are the most prepared for State assessments then our staff as well prepared we've already been conducting several training for our staff and then also we want to make sure that you the families are also aware and able to support your students so we wanted to start just by providing that brief piece of update the right here you'll see there's a really important resource parents there's a link here for it in this document and please also let me let everyone know that at the end of our presentation I will share this entire slide Deck with you and will also make sure that it's posted on our district website in the chat box you also find this link to this parenting Guardian website and it is such an incredible place for you all to go to be able to get a lot of the questions answered that you have it'll also provide a lot of rain horses for you to be able to support your student as they're taking the state assessments and so just to give you kind of a sneak preview you'll see here this is what the website looks like and you'll notice appeared on the far left hand side it has some information about you know what are some of the latest updates how your child will take the assessment at home how you can make sure that technology is well supported and additionally either some videos and some quick reference guide that will also help you along the way so it's got a lot of really great pieces of information here for you to be able to refer to so let's talk a little bit about why right what is the piece about why were in the smarter balanced assessment system is providing Educators with standards-aligned tools and resources to support teaching and learning and let me tell you the resources that are available with smarter balanced your students have already when using this year we've been administering what are referred to as interim assessments and so your child is becoming already very attuned to the platform that the students will be taking the assessment so they're beat their becoming very used to have navigate a lot of the features that are on there and become comfortable with the types of questions that they're being asked the summative assessment snow right now just his doctor Lucas and stated earlier are critical really now more than ever right there able to divide our administrators are teachers with high-quality student and school achievement data so that we can really track potential learning loss and really help us to inform teaching and learning the Statewide assessments are all really an essential component of Equitable and valid and a balanced assessment system especially right now with the disruption that's been caused from the coronavirus pandemic the Statewide assessments also really are shiny light on the progress of our students who are disproportionately impacted by school closures so that's really also taking a really close look at our students who are English Learners are minority students low-income students and are sued what disabilities and finally are Statewide summative assessments are required under the federal every student succeeds act so maybe some of you have heard about our elcap and the work that goes into back and so we're really taking it close look at how we can help to make sure that we're providing a uniform measure a student achievement of a high-level overview as to why these assessments are used so again refer to the caste system we're talking about the California assessment of student performance and progress and I love this graphic because it doesn't really great job of really showing all of the different components of the assessment so you'll see it encompasses the California science test the California alternate assessment English language arts and also mathematics and reading assessment and that's an assessment tool that we're going to be when to administer in the future in particular for our students who are enrolled in dual immersion programs but this is really one of many measures that we used throughout the year indicate whether students are on track to be called and career-ready at each tested grade level so when your students are going to be taking this assessment they're going to be looking at a portion that is referred to as a computer a day give test and what does does is a present students with a beginning question that is really at like a medium level and so you'll notice here in this graphic but on the first question here the student received an r or they how to correct the answer correct or right so the system been adopted and gave the student on question number to a higher level question right the student also got number to correct right they got the answer write and sold in the system adapted and gave the student even a little bit more difficult question will on question 3 we can see that the student receive that question incorrect excuse me or wrong and presented a lower question and really this is exactly what your students are going to be looking at their going to be provided with questions that to the students Lab at eventually the questions as they pursue will balance out to the students are being assessed on questions better than at their level and this is for both language arts and for mathematics so when we refer to a computer-adaptive test or cat this is how this portion of the assessment works piece of the assessment is what's referred to as a performance task and a performance task is also given both language arts and Mathematics and its presenting students with a lot more complex analysis types of questions but having to really do some higher critical thinking and really having to explain their reasoning so we get it measuring students on what they're able to do with their knowledge it's challenging our students to respond to complex real-world problems these are also performance tasks are taken on the computer and taken remotely but they're not computer-adaptive so when our students are seeing a performance tab it is just they're presented with a scenario where it's not adapting and anyway it's just giving them a single fee or a scenario to answer and the performance task items are a little bit lengthier because our students are having to either compose narratives opinion Pieces perhaps an older having to potentially take this one or two class periods in mathematics are asked to solve questions and again they're asked to really explain their thought process that goes into how they sold it so it's not just so much students are even able to compete mathematical problems but they're really able to explain their reasoning with how they're coming up with the answers that they're developing the next portion is what we're referring to as the cast it sounds like a spino when I hear that a lot of times I think of both but this is cast which is the California science test now the California science test is administered to students in grades 5-8 and then what high school so this year because our students in 11th grade last year did not take the science test if this will apply to most of our seniors in high school this year it will be both computer-based and computer adaptive so like similar to that computer adaptive piece we talked about and it's important to note that our students in 5th grade are being measured on standards from kindergarten all the way through fifth grade are students in 8th grade are being assessed on both 7th of May 6th 7th and 8th grade standards and then High School our students are being measured on high school standards and he's are all aligned with the California next Generation science standards to the California science test again is if signed to our students in grades 5-8 and then once in high school so the early Assessment program which is known as EAP apply store students in grade 11 and so are students in grade 11 have an opportunity to in collaboration with the California Department of Education California state universities and our community colleges are students are able to actually when they're taking the smarter balanced assessment they're able to take their assessment results and to provide that information to Cal State universities and to the community colleges so that they won't have to take a placement test when they enter college right the system will already be able to Broad I'd information to colleges so that it will automatically place them when I get to college in the appropriate courses so this is only applying to our students in 11th grade and so when your 11th graders or taking the assessment the very last piece of their assessment is going to ask them if they are going to are willing to authorize the release of their results to the Cal State universities and the community colleges so this is a really important piece to be able to talk about if you have an 11th grade students that is an option for them help them to avoid having to take an additional placement test if they're attending a Cal State University or a community college so let's talk about who what so smarter balanced assessment are administered to our students in grades 3 through 8 and grade 11 for both language arts and Mathematics you'll see here at our window for when we're going to be opening this begins on April 12th and will be administered through May 27th but it's really important to note that each individual school has developed a very personalized schedule testing during different oportun he's doing that window so it's going to be really important that your child is communicating with their teacher that you may be communicating with the principal to find out the detail specifics as to when each grade level will be assessed during this win again are students in grades 5-8 and 12 will be taking the California science test we have the same window that's offered for them and then our students to meet the criteria and grades 3 through or 11th and 12th to take the California alternate assessment for language arts math or science will only have in person as an option and so we're going to be working very closely with our special ed PE to make sure that our administrators are trained in how they're going to be administering that and when so if there are students who meet that criteria you will be hearing from your school site and from the teacher I said how does Arrangements will be made 4M person assessment so again that assessment it's only done in person the other assessments that you're seeing here will be able to be administered remotely and so you'll see that on this slide as well this is exactly how we're going to be administering it you'll see here that all of them here have yes as a remote option except for that California alternate assessment so again the alternate assessment be done in person and that's why you'll see no hear so let's talk now about what Will students need in order to be able to take the test so first students will need their SSID number and so they can get this information from their teacher or from their parents you could also find this if you're logging into the Aeries Parent Portal now because our students have had so much experience this year with logging in and practicing with interim assessments it made me very likely that your students already knows what their SSID number is but that student identifier will be necessary in order students to take the test next students will need their computer so this year we're in distance learning model so all of the tests except for the alternate assessments will be done from home so we really need you to make sure that students not only have their computer but that you're making sure that their computer is charged and ready the night before each assessment and again once you're communicating with the school site and the teachers as to when the test will occur we really need you to help us in supporting to make sure that the students have their devices that are charged so in addition to a computer students will also need their session ID number and this is something that will be provided by the and this will be provided more than likely the day of the test but teachers are also able to schedule the session ID in advance so it may be possible that some teachers will share that information in advance so that students are I'm finally your student will also need Traditional School supplies during the tests so they should have paper and either a pen or a pencil that's available to them during the test so that they can take notes I can complete a rough draft or they can compute any calculations that they might need in mathematics so we really need your support and making sure that our students have the device has charged specially at all so that they have the supplies during the assessment so let's talk a little bit about the secure browser so the California Department of Education has done a really incredible job of making word that is students are using their own device that they're supported and being able to download a secure browser on to that device so the secure browser is what is absolutely necessary for students to be able to take assessment now if your student is using a district issue device the secure browser has already been installed onto their devices and so the teachers right now are really going to be working with students to make sure that that's the Cure browser is working to be really been encouraging all of our sites to run practice sessions with our students to make sure that this is working however we know that a lot of students this year have chosen to use their own device your student does use their own device we're going to ask that you follow the instructions and supporting your child to make sure that this secure browser is download it and so is there will be a link here I believe it's also in the chat with video instructions that are available in English and in Spanish for how you can help to make sure that that browser is downloaded each of the school sides go also has an apple one technician who's on site to be able to support with this soap please make sure that you are working with your school site staff if you need additional support and downloading the secure browser but it's really important that we're making sure that all of the devices students are using there's absolutely going to require the SAT browser in order to be able to take the assessment and this is so that we really could make sure that the assessment is taken and it's the most valid it's the most secure way of assessing our students so they're going to be some new features that are embedded within the program and so your child will have access to a raised hand tool you'll see that tool right here it'll be in the testing browser so similarly to how we your child was taking this assessment in the classroom and they would raise their hand and needs support and now has a raised hand functionality so if it anytime your student needs help from their teacher during the assessment the students will able to raise their hand in the platform and be able to get support from their teacher they will also have the ability to send a message via chat by typing a comment and of the chat box pencil that looks very similar how is student would send a text message right for those students who have cell phones it works very similarly if an anytime your child loses connection with the testing service they should make sure that they're contacting the teacher by email or phone or some other prearranged me and it's really important to note that there is a video feature here so in order to make sure that the test is administered in the most secure way possible will need to be on video throughout the assessment but it's really important to note that the only person who is able to view the students on video during testing is the teacher so students will not be a book to see one another students will only be able to see the teacher however the teacher will be able to see all of the students and so we also want to make sure that you are aware that none of the videos none of the video. the messages none of the calls that are made or none of the broadcast features are saved in any test session so they're there to be able to ensure that testing is done in the most secure way but none of those features will be saved one test session to the other but I just want to make sure we reiterate again that students will need to be on the video throughout so the teachers know that if a student is not on video the teacher may need to pause the assessment reach out to the student to make sure that they are enabling that video feature so again if your student is using their own device that's another feature that we need to make sure it's working don't need to have a working video and then we need to be able to have a working microphone because of students need to reach out to their teacher and the teacher is able to enable this call feature that microphone is working about how you can help so environment is really important for our students so make sure that your students test in a quiet place with no distractions they're definitely going to Focus throughout and so please if you can help us and making sure that our students are able to test in a place without being distracted they may have siblings or families may be home but if you can designate a quiet place for students to be able to test that was absolutely support another important aspect is going to be your student attendance now we want students to attend school everyday but supposed to we really want to make sure that your students are present everyday in their class when testing is occurring so again I please make sure that you're communicating with your school principal and your teacher so that you can find out which days weak your child will be testing parents can also help by scheduling any activities after instructional time each day so we want to make sure that if students have any appointments or other activities that those are occurring after the school day so that it doesn't interfere with any testing that can occur another way that you can help out is to remind your student that their camera and their sound will baby on it during the entire chest like we just mentioned it's a requirement of the testing system so it's a really great thing to remind your students about now before testing actually begins another fantastic thing that you can do at home is you can practice with your students right now so I believe this link is also in the chat and remember you'll receive. this'll take you to a live link to where you can actually practice with your students at home you can log in to this student interface you can have students practice looking at what the questions look like you can get a sneak review of what the types of questions are that your students are going to be asked to answer so even at home right now this is a way that you can help to support that your students are best for pear and so we might even in little bit have an opportunity to take a look at what this practice page looks like no shoot you or your students need any support during testing it's going to be really important that you have information that you can provide right if there's any types of Technology challenges you'll see on the right hand side here it'll be very helpful for us to know what type of device students are using the test session ID that students are using if your students are using a district device on the very bottom of the device is a white sticker it's commonly referred to as the asset tag and there's a stupid digital six or seven digit code that's on there that information will also be extremely helpful to help with troubleshoot any technology challenges that may occur at the school side SSID number first the grave level all of this information will help us to troubleshoot so you're going to be able to reach out to your school principal assistant principal for those of you who are at a school with an assistant principal we mention the Apple One missions my name is listed here is a point of contact but we have an incredible team with r end with our it department and there's two phone numbers here that they have that you can also reach out to do you need any kind of support with technology challenges during the assessment and there's also an email here for the help desk and so we have a lot of stuff that's there that's ready to support American if you are reaching out please make sure that you have as much of this information as possible it will really help to expedite on our end to be able to troubleshoot do now let's talk about some family res this is right where can you go right now to be able to get some support and some additional information so what if a parent and teacher Association are commonly now ETA are there to help support and putting together What's called the starting smarter content Explorer and so you'll see this link right here is also a great place for you to go to how to find resources to support your child and you also be able to again at preview questions at this site based on the grade level and the content area so it's a nice place for you to be able to go there's also this incredible parent guide to understanding and so this document is provided in both English and Spanish and even other languages as well should you need it at again it provides all types of information for you for the families on how you can make sure that you're supporting your child in their learning not just for assessment but also throughout the entire year until finally here you'll see there's a page here that you'll receive and I'll go ahead and put the link for this presentation into the chat these are all live links and you'll notice the ones on the outer part are all videos so if it's South Point you wanted to back and watch brief videos about how you can practice with your student at home there's a 12-minute video here on how you can set up a practice session there's a 3-minute video that talks about what are smarter balanced how your child will be taking a remote test at home really phenomenal resources here that we've already talked about they're just all here in one page and again I want to bring your attention there's a link here for how you can support my downloading the secure browser should a student be using their own device so I know that is a lot of information that we just provided a lot of great information patient and please know we'll be sharing also the recording of this presentation as well should you need to refer to it but I wanted to be able to provide some time for any questions that we could answer at this time and so I'm going to stop sharing my screen just so I can see more of your faces and be able to address any questions that anyone may have it this time and Doctor Lucas I don't know if you wanted to add any additional pieces as well Stephanie thank you so much and it's definitely a huge thank you to you for this incredibly comprehensive presentation so well done I just want to thank our parents in case my parents to have to start leaving thank you so much being here tonight I want to reiterate what Misfortune I do shared which is we are here to support your children and you and I would like to re-emphasise the message of using assessments to celebrate your children's learning and for our students to app which Assessments in that way then we had it back to you for questions okay I asked questions you see me my name is high climb is everybody all right I just had a question the task will students that whose parents tickets advantageous or maybe I'm difficult it'll be able to tap on site and in a district site either at school or District office now in person assessments is for our students who are English Learners and are taking the elpac assessment right now which is the English language proficiency assessment for California and also our students who are special ed so curly those are the two options that were looking at right now for info assessment as some of our designated sites should we wind up returning to in-person instruction then at that time we would make a determination as to how that would look for our students this essay I hope that helped to Adler looking for today's presentation right there so that you could have just do you mind if there's any that maybe if there's a common theme that you would be able to read the same time sure some of them that come up about technology how to use a secure browser in other words is this presentation with all the guidelines and so for the available yeah so I just shared the link with the presentation and then yes the instructions on that page really walk families through so let me see if I can go ahead I'm going to share my screen again just so can show everyone where you're going to wind up going so go to that parent and guardian site which is here so if you are needing to support your child with enable to download the secure browser this is the page where you're going to go and right over here on the left hand side is the Tab 4 download the secure browser and So based on the device that your child has right if they're using a Windows and even with Masters a couple of different versions you would select the type of device that students are using and then it has really like I had mentioned a video here that walk you through how to actually download it and there's also instructions here below for doing that exact thing and you'll see here this is where I was talking that there's translated resources so many families he did that same information in an alternate language the California Department of Ed has really done a great job and making sure that those resources are available in multiple languages so this is exactly where you would go to be able to help in downloading that secure browser and I believe that blank is in the chat also in the presentation itself as well I will talk to Miss Rosa color son Malachi remember answer me can you say that again she wants she says that her child a speech so far so receive speech services or falls under the special at umbrella and wants to know how the testing services would be administered to her church album to part it would depend first if the student based on what the IEP says if the IEP if the student IEP states that they would be taking me as the general assessment based on what is known as the IP this student could accommodations and designated supports as it's noted in that that plan if a student is taking the California alternate assessment if they meet that criteria then again that would be in person they would really want to work with their School site to make sure that if their student's IEP says if they receive additional support then that we make sure that they're added to the program and those types could be things like speech to text read aloud features that are embedded within the assessment to specifically help those students so that we're making sure that nothing is in keeping them demonstrating their learning and the parents are Malachi Rembert please I want my name is Stacy Ingram and my son falls under the same umbrella but I don't recall anything being classified in the ie he as far as the assessment test what is that with that normally be in the IEP because I have to talk to him I'm so glad you asked that absolutely there is a there is a portion of the IEP that is specific to assessments so you are absolutely want to make sure they're working with an administrator to review that component I'm if there's any changes that need to made to be IEP or any addendums you want to work with the special ed team to make sure that those testing accommodations are included because cast has been really fantastic. Sure that students have the support that they need that's embedded within the test platform so that it doesn't impede the student demonstrating their learning and so I mentioned a couple of them already which is a Read Aloud feature so some students receive that support wear stories are our read to the students some of them received the support where the question is read to the students some students who maybe have Vision impairment maybe have Asus support the zoom feature so that students have the font that is much larger there's a there's really quite an extensive they call it a matrix of different types of support that you can receive we just want to make sure all so that's two are familiar with those resources right so we want to make sure that if a student has been used to content being read aloud to them this year on assessments that it continues when they're taking an estate assessment so that they're very familiar with Peppa please do reach out to your site principal and your case manager to really make sure that you have an understanding as to what those supports look like so I'm so glad I'm looking over it now I don't see anything okay I will follow up with County perfect I was going to share and if you need any support please reach out to us and will connect you with a person to support you the executive director of special education okay excellent okay I have a question please lower school you think I should be able to this presentation today and every one of them shoes reminded students what is why are we being friends about how to take it doesn't sound right to me it is presentation should be conducted with the students that are going to be to take the exam pay them for the state is a lovely parenteral I totally agree with you agree I said Lisa let me let you know that those I'm a hoe and the tools to be able to do exactly that so please know that that information has been shared there are very student-friendly presentation to be able to walk students through that so we really made sure that our teachers are equipped with that are in detention really here is to make sure that we're being transparent our community and with our families at the same types of expectation so that you are also you are also kept aware of exactly what state assessments are going to look like this year so it's just to be able to add an additional layer and support should your stew be reaching out to you but you also have an understanding of maybe some of the types of questions that they may be coming to you with so make sure that it's working so that it won't be at you know when I have things to do yeah and so we've been that we've been really encouraging all of our our teachers to do that exactly right now that exact thing so that they are practicing now so that by the time states its assessments, but they will already have been aware of exactly what they'll need to do in order to be able to take that into our teachers are actively working on that right now with our students so that they are prepared one State Testing begins in April Stephanie meant after that of course and thank you for so much for your question your feedback ma'am we always feel responsibility to provide information to our parents during these voluntary meeting so we want to make sure that our parents have as much information as we can possibly provide to them and we do take on the responsibilities as a school district show that our teachers are principles and our students are well prepared but we do feel very strongly about making sure that our parents have information also so I'm sorry if you feel like it was a waste of time we want to make sure that we at least offer the opportunity to our pain if they want to take advantage of the opportunity during this volunteer all different language only push my child because I may not understand what it's in the computer so I can teach my child how to navigate to the Computer telling me to learn what is expected of my child children this to that should be talked about responsibility and accountability that's how it starts so they will grow we agree we 100% agree we are on supporting our students in just that and being accountable and responsible for tonight was just to make sure our parents had any information they might want to have this Lucas can I say something Prince's I think if you look at it from the standpoint of getting a head start with helping your child prepare for the test and help him study certain things if you look at it that way it's really not a waste of time because we have a responsibility as well to teach our kids responsibility and accountability is not the school district's responsibility it's the parents so all I'm saying is from me the meeting was it gave me a lot of information and then now with these different websites I will start working with my son to prepare him for the test as well as whatever his his teacher is going to teach him as well. it's not really for me to learn anything is for me to be able to help my child get ahead and be able to do well on the test they got it from that standpoint when it comes to computer the parents know this is what we expect you to do that will have they will understand it you was thinking to say that most parents are computer savvy so where you at a presentation about computers and websites and programs in this and not in most parents are not computer savvy their kids are more computer savvy than they are so I think what she was trying to say is maybe the teachers do the presentation with the kids because the parents tried might get lost trying to explain something to the kids if they're not really educated on I think that's what she was trying to say thank you for that we are absolutely doing that the teachers are doing that it trust me that that's a huge part of what we'll be doing between now and testing again we just want to talk about opportunities for parents to get information that's all requesting that parents take on any responsibilities of a teacher or principal words or staff might have Wheatley do feel strongly about making sure our parents are empowered with information and are able to take away from any session what that would say would like to take away I'm at asked if there any parents with other questions doctor Lucas has been questions regarding the the practice test if they follow the same protocols and if there's if they follow the same guidelines and so forth available to parents for them to use on for students for them to use if they will mimic the same type of environment at least a few of the questions that have been in the chat and there's also yes of course and there's two more hands I just wanted to represent right now you would just the student would just sign in as a guest so you'll see her on the link in the chat again but you would select sign in right here and I'm just going to walk you through quickly even though there is a video that would also walk you through let's say for example I have a fee grade student so I would Select Grade 5 and listen I want to look at a language arts one so I would go ahead and select language arts remember here is the performance task for language arts here's mass and the math performance tasks Alyssa I want to select the language math practice test the students would select this they would then have to make sure that they can hear the sound audio so they would hit this play feature and they would hear a chime they would still like they could hear the sound of the video and they would select continue and then they would select begin test now I'm so what you're going to see here on the screen is the exact type of platform that a fifth grade student would you looking at and the exact same type of questions so you'll see here on the left hand side or the passage and on the right hand side are the questions and so this is something that our teachers are practicing with our students right now they've also been practicing with throughout the year so this isn't something that would be new but to show all of you here students would even practice would how to make the screen larger right how I can select the arrow how I convened just really look at just a quick students would learn how they can highlight right so they might see an important passage here selected and then select that they want to highlight this piece and maybe they can pick the color the students would practice with evenly the lion reader feature they would still like Lion reader and then they would practice being able to read a story and use the line reader function we talked a little bit earlier about being able to zoom and so students who maybe need the font bigger would be able practice with that as well so this is not only the exact type of platform in the exact thing to the student is going to see it also shows you as the parents the types of questions right this was a fifth grade one the type of questions that students are being asked so you'll see on the right hand side hear the different types and this is really important right like even looking at this third question here read the text from the sentence and select two choices and sometimes our students even you know they made miss this piece of the question because they may be only still like one answer and then go on so teachers right now or walking students through and they've been doing this throughout the year how to really make sure that they're reading what questions are asking for right so this is it but this is just an additional thing that you at home could also work with your student on practicing and if you want to be able to look at what are the types of questions for both language arts and Mathematics that students might be faced with this side here I didn't eat any kind of login strain you would just login as a guest and you can either look at language arts or Matt and remember you could look at that cat or you could look at the PT the computer adaptive test or the performance tasks we highly encourage you if you're seeing that your student is at home practicing this this is something that is just so powerful for the students it just makes them far more comfortable when they're actually looking at it but it isn't the same type of instruction that are teachers are full you're out the year right how to really read through and really analyze what questions are asking so hopefully that helps there to kind of share Miss lover yes I might Sam Houston 11th grade I was just asking him about if you knew about this you say no so my question is that is subject for each class are they supposed to be training or letting them know about the assessment they're going to be taken or who is or is there someone who's supposed to talk to them about it or how should we address. So that's cool that they're not being letting kids know about this assessment yes or the student should be getting that communication from their teachers they may be getting the communication also from their principal that this is something that is coming up and when we return from spring break in a couple of weeks so certainly we want to make sure that our you know that our teachers are communicating that with that information with their students as well so will really make sure that that message is getting out and so we have just a couple of minutes left and I know that they're made wind up being some outstanding questions and we'll review the chat box this is really just you know sort of a big an overview please him also that that this is going to be part of Kim continue conversation with you know you're Isabel that your teachers as we're getting closer to that window opening in April and so I didn't know if there were any media a couple of final questions that we could look at it and maybe a couple of raised a question and the after that misremember iReal gamiss hello okay she made it herself take me home turquoise in is about a student whose new to the district would they be required to take the test yes it this is US state requirement so all students in the state of California and in other states as well are being required to take the state assessments before I'm missed since a lot of parents aren't computer savvy they have a little training class for them to make them feel more comfortable when the kids are taking the the the test is that at all possible to do I can certainly Reach Out to RIT team and see if there can be a separate type of training on just the specifics are you talking like we're like the secure browser piece I don't know whatever the parents may be feeling uncomfortable with cuz a lot of them was saying that they computer savvy so yeah right as far as the secure browser peace and that's really the item that you know that would be the one piece that maybe parents we need support with but each School site also a the designated it technician who is there to support I'm so by reaching out to your school principal you're able to bring in and go get that one-on-one support with how to navigate using a secure browser nature should that be necessary the other pieces in terms of navigating the platform the students are going to be working with their teacher also on how to go through this so there's really going to be a lot of time and that's dedicated to practicing and we not in the classroom between students and teachers is already going on already and so I think that feature that pieces already has already started there's also a virtual parent Center as well and then information is on the parent Center on Monica can maybe speak more about that or parents can drop in and get us support if they like in different areas so I'm I know she's translating looking for the information just to be specific I'm sorry Mom I'm sorry Monica but you're the this is your baby so if you could provide any info that would be great I think she's trying to figure out where so I think while she's me me questions while I look for the information I have it I just don't have it handy at the moment but it's under the parent here's information there on the drop-in. where's the virtual drop-in hours virtual parent resource center and it's via zoom and if you Google or search for virtual parent Resource Center drop in hours are there it's on Tuesdays from 12 and Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m. you can call her at 310 and I'll put this and I'll put her information and or chat box in the chat box just to support that are already in there there it is, we need additional resources and have questions on spur the guidance as she's there.
