School Facilities & Construction Projects

The Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) is pursuing an ambitious program of facilities improvements, funded chiefly by Measure I, a $240 million bond measure adopted by the community in 2020, and Measure GG, a $90 million bond measure adopted by the community in 2012. Additionally, more than $30 million was pledged by the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) for schools that lie along its flight paths for sound mitigation improvements. These sources of funding, in addition to levied developer fees, Federal and State grants, and other programs are helping to meet the facility and repair needs IUSD has identified in order to ensure students and staff have access to safe, modern educational spaces that support learning. In addition to funding from Measure GG and LAWA, the District has received project-specific support from community partners, such as the NFL, L.A. Rams, Chargers, Clippers, Nike, and others. The District continues to seek new funding sources for facilities planned upgrades, including leasing of unused property. Measure I Update
On November 3rd, 2020, Bond Measure I passed with an over 80% voter approval of the district's plan to improve our schools to support quality teaching and learning for our students. Funds from this measure will be used to reduce inequalities and improve funding for IUSD schools. Measure I authorizes $240 Million in bonds to provide our students with access to cleaner, safer, healthier, more up-to-date 21st century schools.

Many of our IUSD schools were built in the 1920’s and 30’s, and are deteriorating, run down, and in urgent need of basic repairs. Measure I authorizes a prudent plan with a reliable local funding source for OUR neighborhood schools, while also helping our local economic recovery.

Measure I makes it possible to continue our important school facilities improvement work to:
    • Keep schools safe and prepared for emergencies
    • Remove asbestos, lead paint, and mold
    • Provide classroom technology for 21st century learning/online education
    • Upgrade computer, engineering, and science labs
    • Improve college and career preparation
    • Repair leaky roofs, deteriorated plumbing, gas lines, electrical, and HVAC
    • Retrofit classrooms and equipment for social distancing and deep cleaning
