California Secretary of State Alex Padilla visited Inglewood High School on April 23 to speak to students about voting and the importance of civic engagement.
The event included an assembly, rally and a voter registration drive with students using tablets and paper forms to register to vote.
Padilla and the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters staff registered 18-year-old students and pre-register those ages 16 and 17. Pre-registered students will be automatically registered when they turn 18.
IHS student Jordyn Stonestreet said she was inspired to pre-register so that she can affect leadership.
“If we don’t like what we see we have an opportunity to make a difference and let our voices be heard,” she said.
